Bugeishi Aikido

On conflict situations

  • In a conflict situation become present and accept the situation for what it is, not what you wish it to be
  • In any potential conflict situation always seek to identify opportunities to defuse, de-escalate or withdraw
  • Beware of ‘interviews’ and other distractions
  • When a physical conflict commences acknowledge that all opportunities to prevent the situation developing have passed and that it is now time to act decisively and effectively rather than react with uncertainty and aggression
  • Tactical awareness is essential in any conflict situation and must be studied diligently
  • Engage a single mind to the single purpose of preservation and in all things apply the 'Hierarchy of Preservation'
  • Never think of technique in a physical conflict, just move and allow your training and body memory to manifest as it will
