Bugeishi Aikido

On freestyle application

  • Outside of defined training in a particular technique one should never intend to do a particular technique, there is no presence or flow if approaching to do a particular technique and it will not be powerful if it succeeds
  • Be present when taking action rather than trying to predict an unlimited number of scenarios or possibilities and therefore rendering yourself inactive through over-analysis
  • Once you have decided to act do not hesitate or second guess yourself
  • Focus on your own intention and actions rather than trying to predict the unlimited number of scenarios or possibilities open to the aggressor(s)
  • Controlled breathing is the key to longevity in any physical endeavour
  • Ground locks should be studied as a matter of last resort, never go to the ground willingly and if on the ground do all you can to get back on your feet
  • In close contact never trust your eyes, learn to see and feel with your hands and body
